The origin of Gongju Sanseong Market can be traced back to a traditional fifth-day market founded in 1937. It has been widely introduced as part of interesting tour programs that involve visiting nearby historic sites. Although it is a permanent market, you will be struck by the bursting energy and vitality of the market, particularly on the first and sixth day of the month. Gongju Sanseong Market has been exerting every effort to revitalize its economy through the constant modernization of facilities and management. You will see an endless line of tourists visiting the market along with nearby Gongsanseong Fortress, which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the tomb of King Muryeong. Gongju Sanseong Market is also a perfect place for trying the diverse and delicious local food, such as chestnut bread and makgeolli , which is made with chestnuts, and one of local specialties from Gongju.
